The public prosecutor announced the opening of a judicial investigation against X for manslaughter, concerning Steve, whose body was found in the Loire more than a month after the violent dispersal of a party in Nantes.
While the autopsy carried out this July 30th confirmed that the body recovered in the Loire was that of Steve Maia Caniço, missing since the dispersion of an evening in Nantes on June 21st by the police, the prosecutor Pierre Sennès announced the opening of a criminal investigation against X for manslaughter.
“Following the disappearance of Steve Maia Caniço, reported on June 23rd 2019, judicial investigations were conducted, first under the direction of the prosecutor of Nantes, then, from June 27th 2019, in the framework of a judicial investigation in search of the causes of this disappearance,” said the prosecutor in a statement sent to AFP.
“This judicial information was closed today [July 30th] by the investigating magistrate […] The analysis of this dossier, communicated to the prosecutor by the investigating magistrate, led the public prosecutor of Nantes to open immediately a judicial investigation against X for the charge of manslaughter,” it says in the text.
“The autopsy of the body discovered yesterday afternoon in the Loire, as well as all investigations for identification purposes, will be carried out within the framework of this judicial information,”wrote Pierre Sennès
As a reminder, a body was discovered in the Loire on July 29th at the end of the afternoon. This information was confirmed by AFP in the early evening.

“The body is in a state of extreme decomposition, we can not say if it is a man or a woman,” said a source close to the file cited by AFP.
